Barcelona insert ‘early exit’ and huge buyout clause into Aubameyang’s contract

Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Arsenal – and his contract includes a few interesting details.

Arsenal agreed to cancel Aubameyang’s £350,000-a-week contract which had 18 months left to run, paving the way forthe striker to move to Barca on transfer deadline day.

The 32-year-old left north London under a cloud after beingstripped of the captaincyby Mikel Arteta following “disciplinary breaches”.

He had not played for the club since December 6 and had been training alone, away from his team-mates, who are out in Dubai.

While Aubameyang completed the free transfer to Barca on Monday, it has taken until Wednesday for the Spanish giants to officially confirm his arrival.

He has signed a contract until June 30, 2025, but Barca have included a break clause which gives them the option to release him on June 30, 2023.

In time-honoured Barcelona tradition, they have also slapped a £83.45million (€100m) buyout clause in his contract.

“I’m very proud because my family is Spanish as well from my mother’s side so I’m just really proud and happy to be here,” Aubameyang said inhis first interviewsince arriving.
