Barcelona were knocked out of this season’s Champions League on Wednesday night as they suffered the ignominy of losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich. The Catalan giants were barely in the contest as they were battered by the German champions at the Allianz Arena.

And fans were left fuming after the match due to the actions of one of the team’s players.

As reported by Spanish publication Sport, centre-back Clement Lenglet was seen joking with Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski after the final whistle.

That was after the defender had produced another below-par performance as he and his team-mates failed to deal with Bayern’s imperious attack.

Barcelona have failed to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in 17 years after finishing third in Group E.

Benfica’s 2-0 victory over Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday night meant the Portuguese team leapfrogged Barca to secure second place.

And Barca fans were not happy at the reaction of Lenglet.

The Catalans have been in dismal form this season and only managed to win two of their European games.

Lenglet’s team-mates looked downbeat following the side’s latest humiliation as Gerard Pique shook his head as he spoke to home attacker Thomas Muller after the full-time whistle had blown.

Philippe Coutinho, who spent a year on loan with Bayern, trudged off the pitch looking hugely disappointed, as did keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

But Lenglet appeared all smiles as he embraced Lewandowski.

Lenglet lined-up alongside Pique at the heart of the Barca defence as he grabbed his fourth consecutive European start.

The 26-year-old has been in and out of the team this season after falling out of favour under Ronaldo Koeman at the start of the campaign.

And he started just one La Liga game this term before Koeman was given his marching orders.

The France international made his first start under new boss Xavi at the weekend as Barcelona lost 1-0 to Real Betis.

But the defender has looked off the pace all season and could well be relegated to the bench once again following his antics in Germany.

Barca’s defeat on Wednesday came in an empty stadium after tighter coronavirus restrictions were recently implemented in Bavaria.

And the hosts were 2-0 up by half time after Muller and Leroy Sane found the back of the net. Jamal Musiala wrapped up the victory in the second period to make it six wins from six for Bayern in Europe this season.
