Barcelona fan climbs on Samuel Umtiti’s car as star confronts rowdy supporters

Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti was forced to confront a group of rowdy supporters after one climbed on top of his car as he left the club's training ground on Wednesday.

A small group of supporters blocked the France international's car and danced as he sounded his horn, before one got carried away and sat on the bonnet.

Despite his desire to get going, he parked up further down the road before coming back to confront those involved after growing angry at their actions.

The 28-year-old left his vehicle and asked those involved "if they knew what respect was" before being asked for a selfie by one of those who took part.

Umtiti did well to compose himself despite the unwanted contact with his car, and he was then asked to sign shirts by others in the area, despite his difficulties on the pitch.

He said: "Come here. Do you pay for the car? Why do you mess around? Do you know what respect is?"

The World Cup winner in 2018 made 43 and 40 appearances during his first two seasons at the club after joining for £20m from Lyon, but has struggled since.

Umtiti has not made more than 14 La Liga appearances in each of the last three full seasons, and is yet to play at all during the current campaign with his contract running until 2023.

After Barcelona beat Juventus to win the Joan Gamper Trophy back in August, Umtiti snubbed celebrations after being blamed for the departure of Lionel Messi.

Umtiti has on occasions been booed by his own fans, simply for not offering up a deduction in his wages as the club struggled to organise funds in the summer.

Spanish journalist Josep Soldado Gomez reported that the Frenchman was unhappy at being booed and he 'went to the locker room' as soon as the game finished.

The incident involving the vehicle is not the first of its kind in Spain, with former Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman being mobbed during his last few days in charge.

The Dutchman came under intense pressure during his final weeks at the Nou Camp as they slipped away from title contention, with tempers boiling over in late October.

In addition, Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale was slammed by fans following a recent injury, with one shouting expletives at his car window as he left training.
