Barcelona have joined Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Lille midfielder Renato Sanches, according to reports. The Portugal international has been tipped to secure a big move this summer after his form last season and during Euro 2020.

Sanches has enjoyed a brilliant 12 months after revitalising his promising career at Lille.

The hardworking midfielder made 23 appearances as Lille stunned Paris Saint-Germain to lift the Ligue 1 title in May.

He then made four appearances for Portugal at this summer’s European Championship and attracted mass praise.

If reports in Europe are concerned, he isn’t short of suitors in the current transfer window.

According to Le 10 Sport, Barcelona are actively pursuing Sanches and are the club that have shown the most desire to capture him.

However, the report states that Barcelona’s ‘financial reality’ means a move is unlikely this summer.

Le 10 Sport add that Tottenham hold a strong interest and could use their Jorge Mendes links to seal a deal.

However, other reports in Europe suggest Liverpool are in pole position to secure his services ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Twitter journalist Rudy Galetti reports that the Reds have not yet formalised an offer for Sanches but remain favourites to sign him.

However, Galetti, too, has made it clear to ‘watch out’ for Barcelona, who have enquired about Sanches to Lille.

Still only 23, Sanches would likely demand a hefty fee, making it difficult for those clubs interested in signing him this summer.

Lille will be keen to keep their top players as they bid to retain the Ligue 1 title this season.

That task has already been made daunting by PSG’s stunning transfer business so far in the current window.

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos and Georginio Wijnaldum have already arrived at the Parc des Princes.

After Sanches’ performance against France at Euro 2020, former Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique stated that he’s who Klopp should target to replace Wijnaldum.

“Who else has been amazed by Renato Sanches tonight,” Enrique asked.

“This is the man I want to replace Gini [Wijnaldum]. He steps up on the big stage.

“Still only 23, and he just won the league with Lille. This man is an absolute engine & knows how to dictate a midfield as Gini did.

“He’s physically a level above others, he seems like a perfect fit for Klopp. He also has that creative aspect which Gini had.”
