Bale’s agent aims dig at Jose Mourinho in blunt response over Spurs playing time
Gareth Bale’s agent has aimed a dig at Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho in a blunt response the forward’s playing time.
The Welshman made a return to north London on loan from Real Madrid, the club he left for seven years ago in an £85m move.
Having endured a rough spell under Zinedine Zidane, it was hoped by fans that the 31-year-old would lead Spurs on in a title charge.
But it has not panned out that way, with Bale limited to cup competitions and just two Premier League starts, spending eight games on the bench.
And agent Jonathan Barnett has taken a dig at Mourinho over his decision-making with the Spurs hero.
When asked at the Financial Times’ “Business of Football” event why the forward has not been playing regularly, the businessman replied: “He’s towards the end of his career. You have to ask Mourinho that.
“When they say what’s happened to him, he’s won more trophies abroad than any other British player in history.
“He’s done very well for himself financially, he’ll have enough money for the rest of his life, and he has a very good lifestyle.
“So that’s what’s happened to him.”
Bale’s agent went on to explain why the 31-year-old decided to head back to White Hart Lane, with an offer from Manchester United also made available last summer.
Barnett added: “With Gareth, he always knew what he wanted to do and knew where he wanted to be.
“We knew he had the talent, everybody knew, so when the clubs came in, the first thing we did was to look at the clubs that were there and the club that would give him the best opportunity to progress his career.

“We chose Tottenham for various reasons – the way to the first-team was good, the coaching was good, everything was good.
“We turned down two offers that were for more money than he was offered.
“We spoke with him and his parents, who were fantastic about it, they listened to us and he finished at Real Madrid.”
It comes just days after Mourinho took a shot at Bale with a brutal response to him on social media.
