Argentina's Premier League players have been allowed to leave Brazil and return to their native country having been told to isolate immediately by Brazil's health regulator Anvisa on Sunday evening.

Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham and Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia have been told that they should've quarantined immediately on arrival because the pass that is handed to other footballers does not include the UK.

Despite that, each of the players except Buendia started their clash against rivals Brazil at the weekend, which was abandoned after eight minutes following the arrival of health officials.

While two of the Premier League players were set to stay up until their last game of the international break on Friday, they will all miss at least one league fixture.

The controversy begun because they spent time in the UK over the previous 14 days before arriving in Brazil, which has been outlined as a serious health risk by Anvisa, but wouldn't have applied to natives such as Fabinho and Alisson.

Having played against Venezuela in Caracas on Thursday, it is alleged that the British-based players Argentine players omitted their base country from paperwork on landing in Brazil.

After they were told to isolate by officials in their neighbouring country, they have been able to return to Argentina ahead of the final international fixture later this week.

With Aston Villa taking on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Tottenham face Crystal Palace away in the early kick-off in their bid to stay top of the table.

The Brazilian health regulator said: "Anvisa considers the situation a serious health risk and so has asked local health authorities to determine the immediate quarantine of the players, who are stopped from participating in any activity and should be prevented from remaining on Brazilian soil."

Having said on Saturday: "Yesterday, Friday, unofficial news reached Anvisa reporting alleged false statements made by these travellers.

“False information provided to the Brazilian authorities may constitute sanitary infractions and violation of criminal laws."

The Argentine FA had confirmed earlier in the week to The Athletic that both Buendia and Martinez would be staying for all three qualifiers – including Friday's game against Bolivia – meaning they would miss more than one league outing.

ESPN report that there was some talk about taking the three players off at half-time and taking all four to the airport, but that was always unlikely in a game of importance against their rivals.

The players could now revert to their initial plan of going to train in Croatia before returning to the UK, but will still not be available this weekend following 10 days of isolation.

That comes after manager Lionel Scaloni said that all his players were available for all three fixtures, despite their Premier League clubs only allowing them to miss one outing.
