Arteta’s wife has opinion on Arsenal boss’s relationship with Edu

Mikel Arteta's wife Lorena Bernal believes the Arsenal boss speaks to Edu more than anyone else.

The Gunners manager made the quip when previewing his side's clash against Wolves on Tuesday. Of course, Arteta was speaking on transfer deadline day, taking place on Monday February 1.

The Spaniard has been in the job a little over a year now and has worked closely with Edu, the club's technical director, in that time.

Whether it be transfer incomings such as Willian, player exits like Mesut Ozil or contract extensions with Bukayo Saka the pair will closely together.

And it seems Ms Bernal believes Arteta speaks to Edu more than he does with her.

"Probably in the last year, I have spoken to Edu more than anyone else in my life!" exclaimed Arteta.

"That’s what my wife says because of the things we have to go through, with coronavirus as well, the transfers, luckily enough we have a great relationship, a great understanding and we support each other in a great way.

"It is lucky that if you have to talk to someone many times around the deadline day that the relationship is strong."

Arsenal may sanction some exits on transfer deadline day, such as Ainsley Maitland-Niles, but are unlikely to do any buying themselves.

And attention will quickly turn to a difficult Wolves clash on Tuesday.

The fixture comes after a goalless draw with Manchester United on Saturday. Despite the result Arteta thinks Arsenal are improving.

"Well definitely the results are much better," he said. "We improved a lot and got many more points from our games. It was a tough game back then.

"We started the game a little bit slow. We conceded the goal, we scored a goal, we dominated the game but we conceded a goal in one of the counter attacks.

"We're expecting a tough game, they're a side who have improved so much a lot over the years, who have picked up some great results against the big teams so it would be a good test for us."
