Arteta "really excited" by new Arsenal appointment as Gunners shake-up continues
Mikel Arteta is "really excited" to work with Arsenal's new director of football operations Richard Garlick.
The Emirates shake-up continues with the appointment of the current Premier League director of football.
Arsenal were on the search for a new senior figure after Huss Fahmy announced he would be leaving in October.
No date has yet been finalised for Garlick succeeding Fahmy but the Gunners had pinpointed him as their No 1 candidate.
Arteta, who saw his own role change from head coach to first-team manager in the summer, has spoken highly of Garlick's skillset.
He said: "We needed a person with a lot of experience, who has all the connections in English and international football.
"Someone that can bring some ideas and qualities that we believe are required to [run] the business the way we want."
"I am really excited. I met him. He is certainly the candidate we wanted. Huss [Fahmy] had a really important role.
"We needed to replace him, there was no question about that. We were looking for months and we all decided that the best person to do that was Richard."
Garlick's remit will include football operations in the first team and academy, all player contract management and relationships with football’s governing bodies.
The Gunners are in the midst of trying to turnaround a difficult season so the latest appointment will come as a boost.
Arteta saw his side endure a horror winless run for almost two months.
They have since returned to winning ways but their sequence of four straights successes was halted by a draw with Crystal Palace on Thursday night.
