Former Arsenal striker Andrey Arshavin proved his footballing qualities are still miles ahead of his Champions League ball drawing abilities.

The former Russian star was unfortunately at the centre of UEFA's car crash of a Champions League draw, which had to be re-done to the fury of Europe's elite clubs.

Fortunately for Arshavin, his spectacular four goal haul during Arsenal's infamous 4-4 draw at Anfield in 2009, will likely live longer in the minds of football fans, than his unfortunate involvement in UEFA's embarrassment.

The 40-year-old is now the sporting director at Zenit St Petersburg having hung up his boots in January 2019.

However, the 75-capped Russian international proved class is permanent, as he lofted a wonderful goal during a Futsal match.

Arshavin stood over the free-kick and initially shaped like he was going to drill the effort through the wall.

But the former Arsenal ace slowed down his run up at the last minute, and scooped the ball over the wall and into the back of the net.

However, while his scooped finish was measured to perfection, the unusual positioning of the opposition goalkeeper has left the footballing world confused.

Instead of staying on his line, the goalkeeper, interestingly, opted to stand alongside his wall to presumably try and narrow the angle.

While Futsal goalkeepers tend to stand further of their line than goalkeepers in normal football, the goalkeeper's presence did not have the desired effect on this occasion, as Arshavin simply bypassed him by scooping it over his head.

And while Arshavin did score a fine goal, the conversation on social media has veered towards the goalkeeper’s unusual positioning rather than the former winger’s meticulous finish.

“What is the goalkeeper doing,” asked one puzzled supporter on Instagram.

“Slap that keeper now,” said one, perhaps, overly harsh supporter.

“Best part isn the guy on the wall clapping quietly for this master piece,” added another eagle eyed fan who spotted a member of the opposition applauding Arshavin’s goal.

“Russain ingenuity,” added another admirer.

Arshavin scored 31 goals and contributed 46 assists in 144 appearances for Arsenal.
