Arsenal ‘willing to sell’ Aubameyang before window shuts to fund signings

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to allow Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave the club this summer if an appropriate offer is received before August 31.

The Gunners captain made his first appearance of the season off the bench on Sunday as Arsenal lost 2-0 at home to Chelsea, their second defeat in as many league games this season.

Aubameyang endured his worst season in an Arsenal shirt in 2020/21 as he scored just 15 goals for the side, having signed a new contract in September of last year.

A number of other Arsenal players could also depart before the end of the window, including Willian and Hector Bellerin.

According the The Telegraph, Arsenal no longer view Aubameyang as indispensable and will not stand in his way if they receive a concrete offer for the Gabon international.

The 32-year-old has reportedly been attracting interest from Barcelona in recent weeks but his wage demands are expected to be an issue.

Aubameyang signed a new three-year deal with Arsenal in September 2023 which took his earnings up to £350,000-per-week, which may be too much for Barcelona and their financial issues.

Barca are understood to be willing to use former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho as part of a deal to take Aubameyang to the Nou Camp.

Arsenal are likely to want in excess of £25million for Aubameyang, who does remain a part of Mikel Arteta's plans but is not seen a irreplaceable by the club.

The former Dortmund man is not the only player who could leave the Emirates before the end of the transfer window, with Arsenal looking to sell players to raise funds for any further signing.

The Gunners have so far spent just shy of £130million this summer on five signings, including Ben White and Martin Odegaard.

So far, however, the only sale has been Joe Willock to Newcastle United for £25million and Arsenal are reportedly willing to allow as many as seven more players to depart, including Aubameyang.

Hector Bellerin is allowed to leave after a decade in north London and has attracted interest from both Inter Milan and Real Betis earlier in the summer, with Arsenal valuing him at £22.5million.

Brazilian winger Willian is available for transfer after a disappointing first season at the club having joined from Chelsea but his wage demands are scuppering any exit from the club.

Lucas Torreira is set to join Fiorentina on loan after spending last season with Atletico Madrid and Arsenal are believed to be ready to cancel Sead Kolasinac's contract after he agreed terms with Fenerbahce.

Academy graduates Eddie Nketiah and Ainsley Maitlan-Niles could also leave within the next week, with newly-promoted Watford having been linked with both players.
