Arsenal ‘willing to meet’ Alexander Isak’s £59m release clause this summer

Arsenal could bolster their chances of winning silverware under Mikel Arteta by signing Sweden star Alexander Isak this summer despite interest from Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old former Borussia Dortmund forward has impressed with his performances against Spain, Slovakia and Poland – despite failing to find the net.

Isak scored 17 goals in La Liga last season, and also finished as top scorer during their successful 2019/20 Copa del Rey campaign, which was concluded a year late.

Despite Arsenal failing to qualify for European competition for the first time since the 1994/95 season, they could jump the queue for Isak by matching his buy-out clause.

AS report that Arsenal have now made ground ahead of Real Madrid in their interest for Isak, adding that the Gunners are waiting to see how keen the player is on the switch.

They say that talks have already taking place with his representatives, but that he is currently focusing on Sweden's last 16 clash against Ukraine on Tuesday evening.

His release clause, that is said to stand at £59million, could be increased should he agree a new deal, but still has three years on his most recent agreement.

Would Alexander Isak be keen on a move to Arsenal? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Earlier in the tournament, Isak got the attention of Gary Lineker for his performances, but the youngster wasn't quite sure who the former England striker was.

He said: "I am not that aware of him… It’s an old player working in the studio?"

Adding: "I wasn’t born then but I have a little bit of knowledge about him."

Arteta said of his summer transfer plans back in May: "The squad needs changing.

"There were already a lot of changes in December, something that has not been done in years, but it tells us where we were.

"Things are going to have to change and the owners are going to back it up."
