Arsenal transfer shortlist: Four players Edu could sign for Mikel Arteta

Transfer update: Latest on Ozil, Messi and Rojo

Arsenal will be looking to dip into the transfer window this month in order to provide reinforcements as the Gunners look to save their season. The signing of defender Omar Rekik from Hertha Berlin has already been announced, but it has been reported that the club are also on the lookout for an attacking midfielder with Mikel Arteta’s side lacking creativity at present. Express Sport takes a look at four players who could be in line to join Arsenal before the end of the month.

Diego Costa

Costa is currently a free agent after his contract with Atletico Madrid was terminated last month.

He has since been linked with the Gunners, who are reportedly in competition with a host of other clubs for the Spaniard’s signature.

The striker is currently training in Brazil in order to maintain his fitness levels ahead of his next move.

Arsenal have spent much of this season lacking a cutting edge in attack, and could turn to Costa in an attempt to alleviate the goalscoring burden on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

He found the net twice from just 204 minutes of La Liga action for Atletico during the first half of the campaign, proving that the 32-year-old still knows all too well where the goal is.

Isco

Real Madrid’s Isco has been mentioned in connection with Arsenal for some time.

The 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in the Spanish capital and could be set to move on this month in search of regular first-team football.

It has been reported that Real are happy to allow their man to leave, but it remains to be seen whether or not the Gunners will submit a concrete offer for his services before the transfer deadline.

With the club’s finances having been ravaged by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, there could be uncertainty over the affordability of a potential move.

Emiliano Buendia

A cheaper creative option could come in the form of Norwich City star Buendia.

The versatile attacker, who can play out wide as well as in the number ten role, was thoroughly impressive for the Canaries during their stint in the Premier League last season and has continued his strong form into the current campaign.

He was widely expected to leave Norwich when the club were relegated, but ultimately remained to help his side as they look to bounce back at the first time of asking.

However, it has been reported that he is keen to leave this month with his transfer likely to cost Arsenal significantly less than it would take to bring a player like Isco or Houssem Aouar to the club.

Julian Brandt

Borussia Dortmund winger Brandt is supposedly being tracked by Arsenal with a view to a January move.

The Gunners are said to be targeting a deal which could involve a fee in the region of £22.5million.

Brandt joined Dortmund in 2019, initially penning a five-year deal, but could be in line to depart as early as this month.

However, club director Michael Zorc has claimed that they are yet to be contacted regarding the possibility of a move.

“There is nothing on the table at the moment,” he told respected journalist Fabrizio Romano. “We can’t do anything about rumours that are constantly being spread that simply don’t reflect the truth. There’s currently no interest.”
