Arsenal transfer shortlist: Four deals that could happen after Odegaard and Ryan transfers

Arsenal: Arteta believes he will have ‘happier squad’

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu have wasted no time in trying to improve the current squad following the departures of William Saliba, Sead Kolasinac, Mesut Ozil and Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The Gunners are close to tying up a loan deal to sign Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid while Maty Ryan arrived from Brighton until the end of the season in a shock loan move.

Yet Arsenal’s business is not done there and the club still want to bring in cover at left-back, here are four sensible suggestions that could arrive at the club this month…

Ryan Bertrand – Southampton

Bertrand has emerged as a potential target for the Gunners as his Saints deal runs down.

He is now free to speak with other clubs with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Arsenal signed Bertrand’s former team-mate Cedric from the Saints and now they could be reunite in north London.

The Gunners could chance their arm with a low offer to see how Southampton respond, given they are set to lose the player on a free transfer in a matter of months.

Marcos Alonso – Chelsea

A move that would make sense for all parties, given Chelsea are desperate to get him off the books.

Alonso has not played since being subbed off at half-time by Frank Lampard in the 3-3 draw at West Brom.

The two London rivals have done plenty of transfer business between one another in recent years including Petr Cech, Olivier Giroud, David Luiz and Willian.

While the Spaniard may not be a universally popular choice at the Emirates, he’d come cheap and is vastly experienced in the Premier League.

Manor Solomon – Shakhtar Donetsk

The young Shakhtar has attracted interest from Arsenal and a deal could materialise.

His agent Pini Zahavi is reportedly trying to broker a move to the Premier League for his teenage client.

Solomon has been a shining light in this season’s Champions League group stages with the Ukrainians, who beat Real Madrid twice in Group B.

A member of the Israeli forward’s family has confirmed he’d be interested in joining the Gunners.

Emiliano Buendia – Norwich

Norwich have already ruled out a January exit for the Argentine but he remains on Arsenal’s radar.

Now Ozil’s wages are off the books, there’s every chance Arsenal could test the waters with a bid.

The Canaries would only consider offers worth around £40million, according to reports.

But, if Arsenal are willing to include the likes of Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock that figure could come down.
