Arsenal are reportedly set to win the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Gunners are claimed to have a ‘deal in place’ to sign the winger after Shakhtar dramatically reduced their asking price.
Arsenal were linked with a move for Mudryk in the final few weeks of the summer transfer window. The loan departure of Nicolas Pepe left Mikel Arteta short in wide areas.
However, the Gunners were unable to get a deal over the line for any target. Mudryk has since spoken on more than one occasion that he would be open to moving to the Emirates.
And it appears Arsenal are favourites to sign him. The Mirror claims the north Londoners have a framework of a deal in place to sign the 21-year-old.
Newcastle are also interested in Mudryk but Arsenal are apparently ahead of their Premier League rivals. Shakhtar have publicly stated they would want a fee of around £86million (€100m) for Mudryk.
However, the report says the Ukrainian giants will now accept a considerably lower amount. Arsenal could seal a deal for as little as £40m up front, with potential add-ons on top.
The presence of Oleksandr Zinchenko at Arsenal is also set to help their cause. Fellow Ukraine international Zinchenko joined from Manchester City in the summer for a fee of £32m.
A winger is Arteta’s main priority heading into the January transfer window. And Mudryk is the top target in that regard.
Mudryk has seen his stock rise following his performances in the Champions League this season. He scored three goals and registered two assists in the six group matches.

Earlier this month, Mudryk insisted he would prefer to join Arsenal ahead of Real Madrid as he feels he would be more guaranteed of game time. In an interview with Zinchenko’s journalist wife Vlada Sedan, Mudryk said: “From a purely hypothetical perspective if there was the option of being a bench player for Real Madrid or a starter for Arsenal, I’d probably choose Arsenal.
“But it’s a tough question and involves a lot of factors in my answer. I would first want to know from the head coach that even if I wasn’t a guaranteed starter, that I’d receive a chance.
“Essentially I need to hear directly from the manager what he envisages my role in his side to be.” And he also admitted he is a fan of Arteta’s side.
Mudryk added: “I also watch them too. They are a very dynamic side, in general not just in controlling possession but also in scoring goals.”
