Arsenal targets keen to join, bid falls £4.5m short, Arteta makes decision

Arsenal are preparing to make many changes to their squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Mikel Arteta and Edu are not wasting time this summer and are acting quickly as the focus for many surrounds Euro 2020.

The Gunners manager has identified a host of targets, while the club are ready to offload a number of players to make room for new signings and bolster their budget.

Midfield is certainly an area Arteta is prioritising to strengthen, and he also wants a new No.1 between the sticks.

Central defence, too, is a weak spot for Arsenal, and progress is being made over bolstering the backline.

Daily Star Sport has the latest transfer news from the red half of north London.

White and Onana keen

Andre Onana wants to join Arsenal – and Ajax wish to get a deal done as soon as possible for their banned goalkeeper, according to Goal.

But the Gunners are yet to make an official offer for the Cameroon international, who is sidelined until November.

Talks have progressed, meanwhile, over £50m Brighton centre-half Ben White, and the England defender is open to joining the north London side, the Daily Mail say.

Lokonga bid not enough

Who should Mikel Arteta prioritise for Arsenal in the transfer market? Let us know in the comments section.

Arsenal have seen an offer of £13.5m rejected by Anderlecht for midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

The Belgian club want £18m for the 21-year-old, who was on Belgium’s standby list for Euro 2020.

With the two teams less than £5m apart in their current valuations, the Daily Mail report there is optimism a deal can be agreed as negotiations continue.

Lokonga would compete alongside Thomas Partey in the middle of the park at the Emirates Stadium, and needs to come in with Granit Xhaka set to depart for Roma, while Arsenal have already missed out on Martin Odegaard and Emi Buendia.

Arteta makes Saliba decision

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is prepared to give William Saliba a chance to impress him this summer.

The forgotten centre-half, who spent last season back in France on loan, will join the Gunners on their pre-season tours of Scotland and USA, Football London say.

Despite Arteta looking to sign at least one new central defender at the Emirates Stadium ahead of the 2021/22 season, Saliba could still force his way into the first-team picture.
