Arsenal target has even more goal contributions than Erling Haaland this season

Arsenal transfer target Cody Gakpo has somehow managed more goal contributions than Manchester City's striking sensation Erling Haaland this season.

Haaland is managing a goal every 50 minutes in the Premier League this so far this season with 15 from nine appearances, scoring 20 across all competitions while laying on three assists for 23 contributions overall.

PSV's Gakpo, who has captained the side under Ruud van Nistelrooy in the absence of Luuk de Jong, has been just as vital to their season with 24 contributions in total.

Among his goal contributions are nine goals and six assists across his nine Eredivisie appearances, with three goals and one assist in the Europa League.

That form comes after football.london reported that Mikel Arteta has been an admirer of the 23-year-old and that the player is keen on a move to the Premier League.

The report adds that Gakpo's current focus is on securing a place in Louis van Gaal's Netherlands squad for the upcoming World Cup having recently been named the Dutch Footballer of the Year.

Earlier in the season Van Nistelrooy spoke out about his star striker, who scored 21 goals in all competitions last season.

He said: "There have been rumours about him since the beginning of the season almost eight weeks ago and we have not seen Cody changing his behaviour up to now.

"There were rumours over the whole period and I admire that a lot in him, he's working on his development on a daily basis, playing in games and reaching his levels.

"He's not distracted, he's focused on games he has to play and focused on his next game. For a young guy like him, it's special to see that attitude."

Gakpo progressed through B-team Jong PSV before securing a regular first-team spot back in 2018, often playing on the left-hand side to cut in on his right foot.

Back in 2021, he became the first Netherlands player to make his international debut in European Championship since way back in 1980.
