Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta looks set to begin next season with a revamped forward line. The likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah have been heavily linked moves away, which would make room for at least one goal-hungry striker to fire the Gunners to the next level.

With Lacazette and Nketiah’s contracts both expiring in a year’s time, this summer is virtually Arsenal’s last opportunity to bank a decent transfer fee for the pair.

Even without their exit from north London, Arteta could yet run into some spare cash if Aston Villa continue to ramp up their interest in the talented Emile Smith-Rowe.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been mentioned with regard to Arsenal’s potential vacancy up top.

While he is proven in the Premier League, it would take an awful lot of money and perhaps a prayer to prise him away from Goodison Park.

With this in mind, here are two alternatives the Gunners should consider.

Andrea Belotti

Links between Belotti and Arsenal have been up and down for years, but recently they have truly caught fire once again.

The Italian has played second fiddle to Ciro Immobile so far at Euro 2020, but in his limited time on the pitch he has looked impressive.

Four years ago, Arsenal had a £56million bid rejected for Belotti. The beauty of their current predicament is that Torino would reportedly be willing to listen to offers at approximately half that price.

With Torino narrowly avoiding relegation from Serie A last season, the Italian side do not hold much leverage if their prolific striker desires a new challenge.

Belotti only managed 13 league goals last campaign, the same as Lacazette. However, he achieved that total attempting to drag a struggling side to safety.

The fact he has hit double figures in the league for the past seven seasons demonstrates his consistency in front of goal.

Donyell Malen

Similarly to his Italian counterpart, Malen was not necessarily the first name on the team-sheet for Netherlands at Euro 2020.

Despite this, his pace and directness when he did come off the bench were an absolute joy to watch.

A host of top European clubs have been put on high alert after PSV manager Roger Schmidt conceded that the 22-year-old striker is likely to leave the club this summer, with Liverpool keen on the player.

Despite scoring 27 goals in all competitions last season, Malen’s asking price is thought to be less than £30million.

Malen also has history in north London, leaving Arsenal as an 18-year-old to return to the Netherlands in search of first team football.

The Gunners will therefore hope that there was no bitterness in Malen’s initial departure, and that he feels as though he has unfinished business with the club.
