Arsenal set for £30m windfall as Man Utd battle to sign Victor Osimhen

Arsenal are set for a £30million windfall due to increased interest in young striker Folarin Balogun. Reports claim Napoli are keen on signing the American star to replace Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain target Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen scored 31 goals in all competitions for Napoli this season. He helped Napoli win Serie A for the first time since 1990.

The Nigerian is now one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe. United are eyeing the 24-year-old if they cannot land Tottenham star Harry Kane.

Meanwhile, PSG have lost Lionel Messi and could also sell Neymar this summer, so have space for a major signing in attack. That could fall nicely for Arsenal, who are open to selling Balogun.

The Mirror reports the newly-crowned Italian champions are keen on signing Balogun. The 21-year-old has had a fine season on loan at Reims in France and has attracted interest from across the continent.

Balogun scored 22 goals in all competitions for Reims and is keen for regular game time again next term. Arsenal are unlikely to be able to provide that, so a permanent exit could be on the cards.

Mikel Arteta wants at least £30m for the former academy graduate. AC Milan have been linked with Balogun for several months but Napoli are now set to provide strong competition.

Arsenal are keen on recruiting in other areas of the pitch, especially in midfield, with West Ham’s £120m-rated Declan Rice their top target. The sale of Balogun would boost their coffers, with Arteta looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the return to Champions League football next term.

Balogun could have big shoes to fill at Napoli. Osimhen has scored 59 goals in 101 appearances for the Italian side since joining from Lille.

Osimhen is about to enter the final two years of his contract, with Newcastle also among those said to be interested. Balogun is unlikely to return to Reims next season, posting a farewell message to his Instagram followers on Monday.

He wrote: “Never easy to say goodbye, but we’ve arrived at the inevitable destination. Last summer I had the opportunity to join and was welcomed with open arms from day one!

“The support I’ve received from you all throughout my loan spell has been incredible and heartwarming. I leave hoping I was able to repay the love, trust and belief you guys put in me.

“This will be an unforgettable chapter for me and my family. Thank you for everything! Balo.”
