Arsenal receive handy £8m cash injection after two clauses triggered
Arsenal are due to receive a total of £8million from add-ons inserted into agreements with Fulham and Monza for Bernd Leno and Pablo Mari last summer. The Gunners offloaded both players as part of Mikel Arteta’s attempts to clear out the deadwood in his squad and now it has paid dividends after both buying clubs beat the drop in their respective leagues.
Arsenal are due to receive £2m from Fulham after they comfortably dodged an immediate return back to the Championship after enjoying a brilliant season under Marco Silva.
The Cottagers signed Leno on a permanent deal from Arsenal last summer as part of their survival bid and the German international has been outstanding between the sticks in west London.
Now Arsenal will receive a bonus payment which can go towards their transfer kitty while there have also been developments regarding Mari earlier in the week.
The Spanish defender, who was stabbed earlier in the season during a supermarket attack in Lombardy, has helped Monza survive the drop in Serie A – which was one of the conditions of their obligation to buy.

Mari also had to make a certain number of appearances for the deal to become permanent and the move has now been triggered for a fee of around £6m.
It means Arsenal have now officially waved goodbye to the ex-Man City and Flamengo man who will remain in Italy next season.
The 29-year-old was the first signing of the Arteta era way back in January 2020 when he arrived on an initial loan from Brazilian giants Flamengo.
Mari previously spent time out on loan at Udinese last season after making his transfer permanent in the summer of 2020.

Brighton may have given green light for Arsenal and Liverpool signings[GOSSIP]
Arsenal are gearing up for a massive summer in the market after Arteta outlined his desire to continue driving the club forward with a series of statement signings after securing Champions League qualification.
“We are really lucky because when you open the doors of Arsenal and you talk about Arsenal to any player, they want to come,” said Arteta. “My experience has been that, regardless of Champions League [football].
“Champions League helps, because every player wants to be involved in that competition and it’s going to help us, because we are going to have to nail the recruitment, because we know that we are going to have to play at a different level and the demands are going to be even higher.”
The Gunners are targeting the likes of Declan Rice and potentially Moises Caicedo, who was the subject of two rejected bids in the January market, although the Ecuadorian won’t be short of suitors.
Other targets are thought to include Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace with Arsenal looking to strengthen at right centre-back and in attack in addition to central midfield as they seek to continue building on the solid foundations that have been implemented throughout Arteta’s regime.
There are also several players facing uncertain futures at Arsenal including Kieran Tierney and Reiss Nelson.
The left-back is being tracked by both Newcastle and Aston Villa and it’s understood he is expected to pursue regular playing time elsewhere after falling out of favour following the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Nelson, meanwhile, is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree to fresh terms with Arsenal as Brighton and other English and European clubs continue to linger.
