Arsenal ‘planning transfer overhaul’ with six first-team stars set to depart

Arsenal could force a huge overhaul of their first-team squad this summer by putting six senior players up for sale as Mikel Arteta eyes additions in several key positions.

The Spanish boss has been left downcast by their Europa League semi-final exit at the hands of Villarreal, with the club at risk of missing out on European qualification.

Despite the owners promising more funding after recent protests, they might need to make room this summer if they are to make notable changes to their playing squad.

As well as loanees Lucas Torreira, Sead Kolasinac and Matteo Guendouzi, football.london have outlined three current players that could be waving goodbye to the Emirates.

Lucas Torreira is desperate to return to South America with Boca Juniors this summer for personal reasons after spending the current season on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Sead Kolasinac has spent the season with Schalke after falling out of favour following the arrival of Kieran Tierney, having joined the club from the Bundesliga outfit in 2017.

Matteo Guendouzi is currently with Hertha in Germany after a falling out at the Emirates, and doesn’t look likely to play a key role at the club as he did under Arsene Wenger.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Ainsley Maitland-Niles left Arsenal with an eye on securing regular first-team football, but it has not gone to plan with West Brom getting relegated this season.

The 23-year-old will be disappointed at not forcing his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England plans ahead of the upcoming European Championships.

Having said that, Maitland-Niles will have done enough to earn another shot at Premier League football next season, even though it might not be with Arsenal.

Hector Bellerin

One time star defender Hector Bellerin has not been able to play to his potential this season with Arsenal crashing out of all competitions and struggling in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old, who joined the club as a youngster from Barcelona way back in 2011, has been linked with a move back to La Liga on more than one occasion in the past.

That could provide Arsenal a way of raising funds, while also sourcing a replacement.

Despite being a regular starter after joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen, the 29-year-old has conceded more goals that he would’ve hoped across his 32 league outings this season.

That could see him put up for sale this summer, with Alex Runarsson and Mathew Ryan both joining the club earlier in the season following the departure of Emiliano Martinez.
