Arsenal offered Sergio Ramos huge £15m per year deal before defender joined PSG
Arsenal offered Sergio Ramos a mammoth £15m-per-year deal before the Spanish defender decided to join PSG.
The 35-year-old has joined the Ligue 1 side following the termination of his contract at Real Madrid, signing on for two years in the French capital.
Having won 25 major titles for club and country, the centre-back received interest from lots of Europe’s top clubs including Manchester United – who he snubbed for a £10m deal.
But Goal have reported that it was the Gunners that came in with one of the biggest offers for Ramos to consider.
Mikel Arteta reportedly offered the 2010 World Cup-winning defender €17m (£15m) over two seasons, with David Luiz’s departure opening a gap.
And the 35-year-old’s entourage were ‘interested’ in the offer – but ended up being put off because of their failure to secure Champions League football last season.
The north London side finished eighth in the Premier League, six points off Europe’s elite competition as well as missing out on Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Goal’s report also states that Manchester City offered Ramos a deal for the same amount of time as well an extra three years with affiliate MLS side New York City.
But the Spaniard ‘had his head turned’, with PSG offering him €12m (£10m) per season as well as bonus opportunities to take it up to €15m (£13m).
On his arrival at the Ligue 1 side, Ramos said: “I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain. This is a big change in my life, a new challenge and it's a day I will never forget.
