Arsenal mocked for Emi Martinez mistake as ‘£30m’ Aaron Ramsdale plan emerges
Arsenal are reportedly lining up a £30million bid for Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale – leaving fans baffled as to why they sold Emiliano Martinez last summer.
Mikel Arteta is on the hunt for a new backup shot-stopper after allowing Martinez to complete a £17million move to Aston Villa at the end of the 2019/20 campaign – despite the Argentine playing a key part in their FA Cup triumph that season.
Runar Alex Runarsson came in to serve as Bernd Leno's understudy in between the sticks, but after making a pair of costly errors in their League Cup defeat against Manchester City he found first-team opportunities few and far between.
Mat Ryan joined on loan from Brighton in the second half of the season, but Emirates chiefs decided against signing him on a permanent basis.
Arsenal are therefore still on the hunt for a backup goalkeeper, and talkSPORT claim they are set to launch a £30million bid for Ramsdale.

The 23-year-old has not enjoyed great success in his only two Premier League seasons to date, failing to prevent Bournemouth from relegation in 2019/20 before suffering the same fate with Sheffield United last term.
While he still has plenty of years to mature and improve as a goalkeeper, fans couldn't resist mocking the Gunners over their decision to sell Martinez, who kept the third highest amount of clean sheets in the English top flight last season, and fork out almost double the transfer fee on Ramsdale.
One wrote on Twitter: "Imagine selling Martinez for £17m and then buying Ramsdale the next season for £30m. Only @Arsenal could do something so brain dead".
Another commented: "Sold their best goalkeeper to Aston Villa and then bid £30m for Ramsdale…. Arsenal somehow continue to out banter Tottenham".
A third put: "Arsenal selling Emi Martinez for £17m to buy Aaron Ramsdale for £30m could be the worst piece of business ever if it happens".

Arsenal supporters also bemoaned the news, with one saying: "If we sign Ramsdale for £30m or more the summer after selling Martinez for £16m that’s the final nail in the Arteta coffin. That decision alone will get him the sack later down the road."
While another said: "Selling Emi for £17m & signing Ramsdale for £30m? This alone in itself should be a sackable offence".
