Arsenal mix-up on US TV has fans joking ‘Americans don’t know their own player’
Fans were left fuming as United States football coverage appeared to mix up Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Folarin Balogun – but all was not as it seemed.
The Gunners began their pre-season tour of America in stunning fashion on Thursday. Mikel Arteta’s side played the MLS All-Stars in Washington, where they came out 5-0 victors in a stern warning to their Premier League rivals ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Jorginho all got on the scoresheet, while US Men's National Team striker Balogun and star player Saka also featured.
But a viral video on social media left fans fuming as it seemed to show the US coverage confusing Balogun for Saka.

The presenter could be heard saying: “Down on the pitch now, live with Bukayo Saka,” before flicking to a female reporter talking to Balogun, as she said: “Bukayo, you’re looking at that MVP trophy…”
Balogun appeared confused in the video, yet it was quickly pointed out that there had been a brief directing mistake which showed a different piece of footage with Balogun, while Saka was in fact the one being interviewed live.
Yet some fans were duped by the editing error, believing the US broadcaster really did not know their own national team striker.
Do you think Balogun will leave Arsenal this summer? Let us know in the comments section.
One Twitter user wrote: “Balogun travelled to US for his homecoming and they’ve mistaken him for Saka,” while another tweeted: “These guys ain't serious man, Calling Balogun Saka really.”
A third added: “First, Saka is one of the best players in the world. Second, Balogun is literally the starting striker for the USMNT. Embarrassing.”
And a fourth fumed: “MLS media is a joke. They don’t even know the difference between Bukayo Saka and USMNT PLAYER Balogun??”
Arteta’s men will face tougher opposition in English rivals Manchester United on Saturday, before meeting Barcelona in Los Angeles, California, next Thursday for their final match of the America tour.
