Arsenal misfit Ozil offered ‘attractive’ package by DC United
Mesut Ozil is reportedly in talks with DC United, with the Arsenal outcast being offered him the chance to become the 'face' of the Major League Soccer outfit.
Ozil has been heavily linked with a move away from the Gunners in the January transfer window, after it became clear he has no future at the club under Mikel Arteta.
Reports have linked the midfielder with Turkish club Fenerbahce and Serie A giants Juventus as Arsenal look to cash in before his contract expires at the end of the season.
There are fears the 32-year-old could sit tight and see out his deal, despite the fact he hasn't played for the Premier League club since March.
But DC United could be about to come to Arsenal's rescue with a deal that would offer Ozil the chance to expand his brand in the USA.
Ozil is in negotiations with the MLS side, who have offered him an 'attractive' package, according to Football London.
The offer is said to include the expansion of his 39 Steps coffee brand in DC's stadium, as well as his own merchandise line.
Ozil's agent Dr Erkut Sogut has a close relationship with DC United executive Sam Porter, who was influential in taking Wayne Rooney Stateside from Everton two-and-a-half years ago.
Meanwhile, Ozil dropped a hint that Fenerbahce could also be an option as speculation continues to link him with the Turkish club.
Ozil shared a photo on social media of himself looking at the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul along with the caption: "This city… #Istanbul #throwback."
It is not clear when the photograph was taken, but it could be taken as a clue that he is heading to a country where he has family connections.
Turkish journalist Berkay Tokgoz recently took to social media message to claim that a deal for Ozil to join Fenerbahce would soon be announced.
He tweeted: "The bomb of the year explodes. Mesut Ozil will join Fenerbahce. He will wear the No.23 jersey."
