Arsenal could land their own Jack Grealish in January for over £40million less than they had previously been quoted. Shakhtar Donetsk are reportedly prepared to accept around £40m plus add-ons for winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Mudryk has seen his stock rise in recent months following his performances in the Champions League. That led to Shakhtar chiefs stating they would want at least £86m (€100m) for the player.
The club’s director of football Dario Srna compared Mudryk to recent transfers, such as Grealish’s move to Manchester City from Aston Villa for £100m. Srna claimed Mudryk has no less talent than the England international and therefore should attract a similar price.
He told The Athletic: “The market is deciding the price — not me. Antony, Grealish, they are players of more than €100m and for me, Mudryk does not have less quality than them.
“This is the last two transfers in the past year, in more or less the same positions. Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
“We just want respect. The market is deciding the price, not me, it shows which kind of players cost this kind of money.”
However, Arsenal may not have to fork out that much after all. The Mirror claims the Gunners are leading the way in the race for the 21-year-old.
Shakhtar would now be willing to accept an initial fee in excess of £40m. So Arsenal could land a player with similar qualities to Grealish for a much lower fee.

Signing a winger is the priority for Mikel Arteta in January. The loan departure of Nicolas Pepe in the summer has left him short in wide areas.
Mudryk has openly spoken about his future on a number of occasions. Earlier this month, he expressed his shock at his reported price tag.
“When I found out about my price, I wasn’t just surprised – I was shocked,” Mudryk told Sport Arena. “I have a long-term contract with Shakhtar, I give all my strength and energy so that Shakhtar achieves maximum results… but every football player has a dream to play in a top club and in a top championship – I am no exception.
“But I am 100 per cent sure that they are unlikely to buy a player from the championship of Ukraine for 100 million. I will not hide that I was very upset. The amount of 100 million puts a barrier for my transition to the top championship, which I so dreamed of. I can’t say that my dream was killed, but wounded – that’s for sure.”
