Arsenal loanee Hector Bellerin left in tears after final Real Betis game
Hector Bellerin was reduced to tears as he played what could be his final game in front of the Real Betis home crowd.
The defender who is on loan from Arsenal has played a key role in Betis' season, which has left them with an outside chance of making the top four in La Liga. But with their final game of the season away to Real Madrid, they have now played their last match at Estadio Benito Villamarín for this campaign.
With Bellerin's future still up in the air, it may have been his last game at home for the Spanish side. And the emotion got the better of him at the final whistle.
It's been something of a tough ride for Bellerin, as the fan favourite at Arsenal quickly became an outcast under Unai Emery and then Mikel Arteta. The defender was adored due to his love for Arsenal, and legendary boss Arsene Wenger was keen on Bellerin from an early age.
However, his successors didn't see Bellerin the same way, and he was shipped out on loan this season. Thankfully for Bellerin, it's been a good year, and he's felt at home back in Spain. And it was later revealed that Betis was already close to his heart, as it was the team his dad supported growing up.
Bellerin revealed to Mundial: “My dad actually supported Real Betis. He grew up in Seville, and I grew up as a Betis fan. All my first kits were Real Betis."
But Bellerin, Betis and even Arsenal are unsure on what kit he will be wearing next season, after sporting director Antonio Cordon revealed Betis were waiting until the end of the season before discussing a permanent move. But their loan deal does not include a permanent option, meaning that they may not have a say in the matter.
Bellerin will play his final match for Betis on Friday as they travel to Madrid, and with Los Blancos already winning La Liga, Betis may fancy their chances. If they win and Sevilla lose to Athletic Bilbao, they will secure a Champions League place.
A point is needed to guarantee a place in next season's Europa League, although Real Sociedad face Atletico Madrid, so it may not even matter. But if Betis can qualify for the Champions League at the expense of their Seville rivals, it will be a famous day in their history.
