Arsenal legend Ian Wright makes prediction over Antonio Conte's Tottenham stay
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has questioned Antonio Conte’s long-term future at Tottenham and says he ‘cannot see’ the Italian staying unless he gets ‘everything he wants’ in the summer.
Former Inter Milan and Chelsea manager Conte joined Spurs in November following Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking.
Conte’s arrival appeared to boost Tottenham’s top-four hopes as the team climbed from eighth to fifth, but three successive defeats has seen Spurs drop back out of the Champions League picture.
While Tottenham signed Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus last month, Wright was left underwhelmed by the club’s January transfer business and doubts Conte would have been satisfied.
Conte has openly admitted he is not happy with his current Spurs squad and Wright believes his frustrations could see him leave the club at the end of the season.
Wright said on the Ringer FC podcast: ‘I feel for Antonio Conte because unless they’ve told him in the summer, “we’re going to give you everything you want”, I cannot see him staying there. I can’t see it.
‘Spurs cannot carry on how they are now, nothing happening in January, with a manager like Conte. A winning manager, a manager who’s aggressive and wants to win.

‘The way Spurs are at the moment, I’m sorry, that game against Wolves… come on, man. Come on.
‘I don’t know what he’s going to do. I would be frustrated if I was him. I cannot sit here and feel like Conte is happy with his lot unless he knows more than we know in terms of the summer. Why would he stay for that?’
Conte oversaw a nine-game unbeaten run in the Premier League after his appointment at Tottenham, but results have dropped off recently and three consecutive league defeats have seen Spurs drop to eighth, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with three games in hand.
Premier League winner Conte believes Tottenham ‘weakened’ their squad in January after offloading four players and now have just a ‘one per cent’ chance of securing a top-four finish.
‘What happened in January was not easy,’ Conte told Sky Sport Italia. ‘We lost four players – four important players for Tottenham – and we brought in only two.
‘So even just in terms of numbers, rather than reinforce the squad, we, on paper, may have weakened it.
‘I’ve always said that I have to feel only one per cent the possibility to win the league. Here it is strange because maybe I feel the one per cent possibility to finish fourth.
‘The level of this league is very high and there is not a lot of space for other teams than the top teams.’
