Arsenal in advanced talks to sign £30m rated goalkeeper
Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in a deal that could be worth up to £30m.
According to Football.London the Gunners are expected to pay £24m up front with the rest to be paid in potential add-ons.
The north London club have been in the market for a goalkeeper all summer following the departure of Maty Ryan, who spent last season on loan at the Emirates from Brighton.
They have being linked with a number of stoppers this window including Ajax’s Andre Onana and West Brom’s Sam Johnstone. However, it looks like Ramsdale is the man they want to bring to north London to compete with current No.1 Bernd Leno.
It is reported that Arsenal have already had two bids rejected for the 23-year-old who played a back-up England at Euro 2020.
Ramsdale missed Sheffield United’s 1-0 EFL Cup win over Carlisle on Tuesday night, but Blade’s manager Slavisa Jokanovic was adamant that his omission wasn’t because of any imminent transfer news.
‘There is nothing in his absence, no, nothing,’ Jokanovic said. ‘I just needed to give some players a chance and others a rest.’
‘Aaron is my first choice, that I can definitely say. But I need to see what other people can do in case something happens. What other options we have and what other choices are here.’
The Gunners have already completed the signings of Ben White from Brighton as well as Benfica’s Nuno Tavares and former Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.
They club’s hierarchy reportedly told White and his representatives that he wouldn’t be the last new player to arrive at the Emirates this summer during negotiations to bring the England center back to the club.
