Arsenal handed Wilfried Zaha boost as Palace admit they "understand position"

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Crystal Palace’s Ivorian winger Wilfried Zaha has had a huge boost after Eagles’ chairman Steve Parish admitted they understood the player’s position.

Zaha first joined Palace at the age of 12, working his way through to the first team and helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

He then moved to Manchester United, but a tumultuous spell saw him return to Selhurst Park permanently in 2014, where he has been ever since.

Rumours have constantly linked Zaha with moves away, with Arsenal and Everton of keen interest in recent times after some fine displays in the league.

Club chairman Steve Parish has said they understand the players wishes to leave and challenge himself at a club that plays European football.

"We understand his position," Parish told BBC Sport.

"It's no secret that he would like to challenge himself.

"But it has to be right for the football club…he understands that as well.

"If those two things collide then we will have to look at it. But right now, we are two days into the transfer window so it's a bit early to talk about it."

Palace have previously asked for big fees for their star man, once charging over £70m.

The Ivory Coast international scored 11 goals this season, his best return in a Palace shirt, and the club will be hoping to make big money off him this year if he is to leave.

"(He) continues to be an incredible talisman for the team. Obviously, there is lots of talk about transfers and all that kind of thing.

Would Wilfried Zaha be a good signing for Arsenal? Let us know in the comments below.

"All I know is that when he crosses the white line for Crystal Palace he gives 100%.

“Everything else, what will be will be.

“There's a lot of love around the club for Wilfried and everything he has done for us as a football club."

Zaha has a contract at the Selhurst Park club until 2023, which he signed in 2018.
