Arsenal have been given a Martin Odegaard worry as it has been revealed that the player has a transfer clause in his Gunners contract that would allow Real Madrid to have the first refusal to re-sign him if he ever leaves the Emirates Stadium. The 24-year-old Norway star has been in scintillating form for the Gunners since joining the club from Real Madrid in August last year.

Arsenal shelled out £30million to sign Odegaard on a permanent deal after the attacker had enjoyed a loan spell in north London. And the ace bagged seven goals and four assists in the Premier League last time around. He has built on his fine form this season and has already racked-up six goals and four assists in just 14 top-flight games.

On Monday, the player produced a man-of-the-match performance and contributed two assists as Arsenal defeated West Ham 3-1. And his fine form has helped his team move five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Odegaard is contracted to Arsenal until 2025. But, according to journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, he could end up back in Madrid should he decide to call time on his Arsenal career.

Real are, however, ruling out a move at the moment but could utilise the clause further down the line. Odegaard originally joined Madrid from Stromsgodset IF when he was a teenager in 2017. But he flattered to deceive in Spain and departed the club four years later after making just 11 first-team appearances.

“I think we just said, ‘keep on playing, keep on believing, keep doing the same things,” Odegaard told arsenal.com after being asked what was said at half time against West Ham, with Arsenal trailing 1-0. “A few adjustments, but I think we played pretty good in the first half as well.

“Just lacked the goal and they scored out of nothing. But I think we played well, and we kept on doing a lot of the same things. And then we got more space in the second half. I think they were tired in the end, so brilliant, brilliant performance.

“I felt good today. I think the whole team was good. I had some more rest than other players, not being in the World Cup. So I think I’ve used that in a good way and I felt good.

“We focus on ourselves. We don’t care too much about the other teams. We’re just focused on ourselves. Keep working hard, stay humble. We look for the next game and win that one. That’s all that matters.”
