Jurgen Klopp has spent big money during his Anfield tenure, but even his transfers pale to the rest of the Big Six. Over the last five years, Liverpool have recorded a net spent of £157million, securing the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil Van Dijk and many more.

This is, of course, a lot of money – but £157m does not get you what it once could.

When Liverpool signed Mohamed Salah from Roma in 2017, he cost the Reds £37.8m – football said that was a lot of money.

Before the Egyptian’s arrival they spent £37m on Sadio Mane – again, it was considered too much on a player who had no Champions League experience

How much would that duo have cost The Reds if they were signed nowadays?

What if Neymar’s move to Paris Saint-Germain, a move which has appeared to be the catalyst for some of the monstrous transfer fees of the last four season, had taken place when Klopp took over at Anfield?

Klopp and Pep Guardiola have enjoyed some wonderful matches over the last five seasons, but the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has always been armed with more expensive armour and weaponry.

Guardiola’s net spent of £472m since the 2017/18 season suffocates Klopp’s £156m more than three times – Imagine what Klopp could have done with just half of City’s resources.

The terrifying front three of Roberto Firmino, Mane, and Salah were all signed when the transfer window was crazy – now it is ludicrous.

Salah, Mane, and Firmino all only have two years left on their contracts, and if new deals are not sorted for the tripartite, they could all leave Anfield for free in 2023.

Klopp needs to prepare for the future, and there is one sensational player who could be drawn to the six-time Champions League winners. Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry is a perfect option for The Reds.

The German forward also only has two seasons left on his contract.

However, when asked about any new deal, his response was not as assured or as clinical as his finishing.

“I feel very comfortable at Bayern, but I still have time in my contract. Let’s see what happens,” said the former Arsenal forward.

If they have not been already, this response should have alerted Liverpool’s transfer team.

At 26-years-old, the winger has plenty of time for development and refinement.

He would arrive back into the Premier League with a huge point to prove, after former West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis deemed him not good enough to play for the Baggies.

However, if a firm interest in the forward is expressed to Julian Nagelsmann’s side and the player himself, then a move could be possible.

Unfortunately, like all nice things, Gnabry will cost money – lots of it.

If a new deal is not agreed by 30th June, Gnabry will only be 365 days away from a free transfer.

Transfermarkt value the forward at £63m but there could be room for negotiation and haggling if Bayern do not want to lose him on a free transfer.

Klopp’s man management and ability to take a player’s game to the next level is second to very few in world football.

But for every Mane, Salah, and Firmino, there is a Naby Keita, Dominic Solanke.

Klopp has hit plenty of home runs while at Anfield, but the bargain bat can only last so long before it splinters and draws blood.
