Arsenal fans in meltdown and now fear Norwich clash is ‘relegation six-pointer’

Arsenal fans are fearing the worst after defeat to Chelsea – with some believing next month's clash with Norwich is a huge relegation six-pointer.

The Gunners have endured a nightmare start to the campaign, losing their opening two games of a league season for only the third time in the Premier League era.

Last week's defeat to Brentford was followed up by an equally shambolic 2-0 reverse at home to Chelsea, with goals from Romelu Lukaku and Reece James putting the Gunners to the sword.

Mikel Arteta's men are 19th in the table ahead of next week's trip to Manchester City, with some fans fearing September's clash with rock-bottom Norwich City could be a relegation six-pointer.

One fan tweeted: "Arsenal Norwich a relegation 3 pointer ffs, we’re completely finished."

Another person said: "Norwich at home is a relegation 6 pointer. In September. The Arsenal .

Someone else added: "Arsenal v Norwich now becomes massive 6 point relegation game."

"Matchday 4 is going to be a massive relegation battle between Arsenal and Norwich . Get excited everyone," said another.

A fifth supporter added: "Not even Stan Kroenke and his ridiculous failson running The Arsenal Football Club into the ground will crush my spirit. Bring on Man City and the big relegation 6 pointer against Norwich."

After the match, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta suggested that his side have a difficult season ahead.

"I don't think the club in their history have faced something like this. We have to face the challenge," Arteta told the BBC.

"The league, or table is not decided in August. The worst thing you can do is throw in the towel, we certainly are not going to do that."

"The crowd were right behind the team from the beginning, when you are losing you cannot expect them to be happy.

"They have given all the support they could. When we don't win, they have to show that and that is natural."

Arteta also spoke about the gap between Arsenal and Chelsea, pointing to the club's youngsters as a reason for hope.

"It is difficult to decide that when you have nine big players. That is a big reason for the gap," he said.

"I don't like to feel sorry for myself, it is the situation we are missing.

"I think everyone can see at the moment we don't have the squad that we want and it seems to be more difficult by the day.

"These young players are giving their maximum, it is their first or second time they are playing in the premier league and they are playing against a top, top opponent."

Things are likely to get worse before they get better for the Gunners, with a daunting trip to the Etihad up next on Saturday.
