Arsenal fans go wild as Odegaard produces ‘assist of the season’ in Brighton win

Arsenal fans went wild after Martin Odegaard produced the “assist of the season” in the 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Gunners were at their unplayable best again at the Amex Stadium as captain Odegaard’s driving run led to Bukayo Saka opening the scoring after just one minute.

Odegaard went on to score a sublime volley, before Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli’s second-half goals clinched three points. But it was the former Real Madrid playmaker’s pass for Martinelli’s strike that left Arsenal fans gushing most.

The ball was played into Odegaard deep inside his own half with 20 minutes to play. With just a split-second glance up to spot his Brazilian teammate’s run, the midfielder played a stunning first-time pass to carve open the Brighton defence.

His perfectly-weighted ball sent Martinelli on his way, who finished clinically. Yet fans were left more in awe of the assist than the strike as they took to social media after going seven points clear atop the Premier League.

One Twitter user wrote: “What an assist from Odegaard for Martinelli’s goal. Only 2 or 3 people in the world have that vision and ability to execute that pass.”

Another gushed: “How on earth does Odegaard see that pass for Martinelli and get it so perfectly. The guy is an absolute genius.”

A third commented: “Give that Odegaard pass a statue” while another added: “Odegaard took out 5 people with that pass, FIVE!! that's got to be the assist of the season.”

Odegaard has seven goals and five assists across 15 league matches this season. And the midfielder was deservedly rewarded with the man of the match award again on Saturday.
