Mikel Arteta will have to act diligently in what could prove to be the most important transfer window in Arsenal’s recent history.

The Gunners will aim to bounce back from yet another disappointing Premier League campaign in which they finished eighth for the second successive season.

Arteta has reportedly identified RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams as a potential solution to one of their many positional issues, though luring the American international to North London could prove difficult.

This is the not the first that Arsenal have been touted with a move for the 22-year-old, but the interest is rumoured to have only grown stronger as Arteta believes Adams’ versatility could be a crucial asset for his side.

Able to play in both central midfield and at right-back, two areas where Arsenal need to strengthen most, both Arteta and Gunners technical director Edu are rumoured to think highly of the American.

Arsenal’s hopes of signings Adams were originally handed a boost when CBS revealed that the Bundesliga star has a release clause inserted into his Leipzig contract.

It remains to be seen just what figure that clause sits at, but any form of release clause is often welcome, as in this instance it would allow Arsenal to bypass negotiations with Leipzig if they were willing to pay the fee the clause requires.

However, the Gunners have run into a number of different problems in their pursuit of Adams ahead of a crucial transfer window.

The first issue Arteta’s side faces is the sheer volume of other clubs interested in the midfielder, with Adams boasting a lengthy list of potential suitors that includes those that will play in Europe next season, a privilege Arsenal simply can’t offer the player at this moment in time.

Recent reports have claimed that these sides are “better placed” to initiate a move for Adams, though there is every chance he opts to stay put at Leipzig for the time being.

This is due to the imminent arrival of new boss Jesse Marsch, someone Adams has already enjoyed playing under while the pair were at MLS outfit New York Red Bulls together.

Marsch comes in to replace the departing Julian Nagelsmann, who is Bayern Munich bound after two years at Leipzig.

Adams has already expressed his delight over the idea of playing under his fellow American once again, explaining: To again meet up with him, go after trophies together, compete in the Champions League together, will be really special.

“Anytime you can be coached by an American in Europe it will be really cool.”
