Arsenal end Ramsdale pursuit, turn attention to Aouar and await Bellerin offers

Arsenal kick-off the Premier League season this evenigh with a trip across the capital to Brentford.

This summer transfer window was supposed to be a monumental one, with the club needing signings in various positions before being able to challenge for the European spots it once took for granted.

But that hasn’t been the case, the Gunners having only signed a back-up left-wing back in Nuno Tavares, a midfield prospect in Albert Sambi Lokonga and an upgrade on the departing David Luiz with £50million Ben White.

Perhaps the more urgent positions that need addressing – a goalkeeper, a creative midfielder and a right-back – are yet to be filled while rivals Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United look set to spend north of £100million.

There is still time, however, if players are offloaded before the end of the window and clubs around Europe become more desperate to spend cash.

With two weeks still to go in the transfer window, Daily Star Sport has taken a look at the latest Arsenal news below.

Ramsdale pursuit over

Arsenal’s hunt for a back-up keeper in Aaron Ramsdale is over after failing to agree a fee with Sheffield United.

The clubs reportedly met on Wednesday where the Gunners hoped an offer of £20million plus add-ons would be sufficient, but Sheffield United refused to be talked down on their £30million valuation.

Mikel Arteta will now have to look elsewhere with The Athletic reporting interest in Barcelona’s 32-year-old goalkeeper Neto, who could join on loan with the Catalans desperate to free-up some wages.

Aouar links re-emerge

Do you think Aouar is a more likely signing than James Maddison and Martin Odegaard? Let us know in the comments section.

The Athletic reports that Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar is once again being considered by the Arsenal hierarchy as we head towards the business end of the transfer window.

The Gunners were close to signing the player last summer but only signed Thomas Partey after failing to match Lyon’s price-tag.

With Arsenal in desperate need of midfield creativity, they could be tempted to match Aouar’s reduced price-tag of £20million in the coming weeks.

Arsenal await offers for Bellerin

One of Arsenal’s primary objectives this summer would have been to sign a top right-back.

But Arteta and Edu are still awaiting offers for Hector Bellerin before they consider signing a replacement.

Bellerin is reportedly in search of a new challenge and with the club willing to part ways, it is only a matter of a buyer coming in for the Spaniard.
