Arsenal have announced defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.
Tomiyasu limped off in the ninth minute of the Gunners’ Europa League loss against Sporting Club de Portugal last Thursday.
And Mikel Arteta’s side have confirmed he has suffered a ‘significant knee injury’ which ends his campaign.
The club said in a statement on their website: ‘Following his substitution during last Thursday’s Europa League match, subsequent assessments have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu sustained a significant injury to his right knee.
‘Tomi has had successful surgery in London on Tuesday and will be ruled out for the remainder of this season.

And the club have now confirmed he will miss the entire campaign after undergoing surgery
The news comes as a blow to manager Mikel Arteta (right) and his Premier League title chasers
‘Everyone at the club will now be working hard with Tomi, so he can join pre-season training ahead of next season.’
The news will come as a significant blow to Arteta’s Premier League title-chasers.
Tomiyasu has played 21 league games so far this season, 31 in all competitions, and is a valued and versatile member of the backline.
With Cedric Soares on loan at Fulham, his absence leaves Ben White as the only senior right-back and removes him as a rotation option at left-back too.
Key central defender William Saliba also missed Arsenal’s 4-1 win against Crystal Palace after picking up a knock against Sporting.
