Arsenal could spend £125m on Kai Havertz as Gunners push for deal
Arsenal are intensifying their interest in Chelsea’s Kai Havertz and look increasingly like the only destination for the German if he is to leave Stamford Bridge. The Blues are ready to sell to their London rivals but want a handsome fee in order to do so.
Despite scoring Champions League and Club World Cup-winning goals, Havertz has never truly realised his full potential at Chelsea since arriving as a £72million recruit in 2020. But Arsenal believe they can get more out of the attacker and have opened talks over a deal.
Chelsea are said though to want £70m of their investment back if they are to let Havertz – also more loosely linked to Real Madrid – leave. The Daily Mail however say Arsenal are willing to pay a maximum of £60m which could be inclusive of add-ons.
The Germany international has only just turned 24 years old but Chelsea’s need to sell players before June 30 puts Arsenal in a healthy position. The Blues must trim Mauricio Pochettino’s squad by the end of the month if sales are to be included in their financial accounts for the 2022-23 campaign.

And that could mean Chelsea are forced to come down to Arsenal’s price for the player, who has been used as a centre-forward as well as an attacking midfielder in west London. But even if the Gunners do get their way with the transfer fee, they could still end up forking out a huge amount to land Havertz.
That’s because the Evening Standard say Arsenal would be willing to match his Chelsea wages which amount to £250,000 a week. Only Gabriel Jesus, who joined last summer from Manchester City, earns more than that at the Emirates currently though Declan Rice can also expect a huge salary if he joins from West Ham soon.
Arsenal would likely hand Havertz a five-year contract – as is customary for players in their early or mid-20s. And such a commitment would see Arsenal pay out £65m in wages if the forward sees out the entire length of his deal without signing another agreement.

In total, that would see Arsenal spend a huge £125m on the attacker. But it is easy to forget that Havertz was touted as one of the best young players in Europe when at Bayer Leverkusen and he has certainly shown flashes of brilliance at Chelsea.
Arteta’s belief that he could eke more out of Havertz at Arsenal comes off the back of Arsenal having made a string of impressive signings under the stewardship of the Spaniard and sporting director Edu. Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale have all been tremendous successes.
As Arteta hopes to snap up Havertz and Rice, one player who will not join them at London Colney this summer is Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. The Seagulls want £80m for the Ecuadorian and so the Gunners will not act on their interest, with Chelsea and Manchester United other potential destinations for the player.
