Arsenal could axe another nine players after Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could have a major clear out of his first-team squad this summer. Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey are both linked with exits but could be joined by another nine players.

Arsenal surprised everyone with their Premier League title charge last season. They ultimately fell short of their goal by handing Manchester City the first of their three trophies.

However, Arteta will be keen to build upon a hugely promising campaign. Xhaka looks set to leave, while the Telegraph claims Partey could follow him through the exit doors.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles has left at the end of his contract, while Pablo Mari will join Monza on a permanent basis. Express Sport looks at nine other players who could be leaving the Emirates.

Kieran Tierney

Tierney has been linked with an exit for several months. The Scotland star made just six league starts last season.

Newcastle have been linked with his signature. Tierney lost his spot following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Rob Holding

Holding struggled when he deputised for William Saliba in the final two months of the season. The centre-back is one of the longest-serving members of the squad.

However, Arteta wants to strengthen his depth behind Saliba. He could therefore be moved on to create space for a new signing.

Cedric Soares

Cedric was unable to make an impression after joining Fulham on loan in January. The Portuguese will be way down the pecking order at Arsenal once Takehiro Tomiyasu is back fit.

Arsenal are also in the market for a new right-back. Cedric has just a year remaining on his contract.

Nuno Tavares

Tavares impressed at times when on loan at Marseille last season. His future may depend on what happens with Tierney this summer.

Albert Sambi Lokonga

Lokonga fell out of favour at Crystal Palace following the sacking of Patrick Vieira. He has been linked with Burnley to reunite with his former Anderlecht boss Vincent Kompany.

Nicolas Pepe

Arsenal are looking to sell record signing Pepe this summer. There are also reports the Gunners could cancel the player’s contract if they cannot find a club willing to pay a fee for him.

Folarin Balogun

Balogun has made it clear he won’t be going out on loan again next season. He has attracted interest from clubs across Europe and Arsenal could ask for a substantial fee for the academy graduate.

Auston Trusty

Trusty was named Birmingham’s Player of the Season following his loan spell. He could make a permanent move to St Andrew’s without making an appearance for Arsenal.

Alex Runarsson

Goalkeeper Runarsson still has a year remaining on his Arsenal contract. However, he has no future at the club and a summer move looks likely.
