Arsenal closer to agreement with Brighton for White with ‘personal terms done’

Arsenal are closing in on a final deal for Ben White after agreeing personal terms with the Brighton star.

The defender is top of the wish list at the Emirates after the departure of David Luiz in the summer.

His contract ran out at the end of the season and has been an integral part of the first-team for Mikel Arteta.

It leaves the Spaniard with a gaping hole in his backline but he hopes to replace the Brazilian with White, who has had an astronomical rise in recent times.

A brilliant campaign with Leeds United where they were promoted saw him earn a spot in the Brighton starting XI where he has gone from strength to strength.

And Arsenal are looking to make him their first signing of the summer and have already agreed personal terms.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are working to complete a deal for the 23-year-old.

They are confident that a transfer will go through with the player clearly keen on moving to the Emirates.

That is despite interest from various other Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Everton and Chelsea.

Liverpool had been taking a closer look at the England international last year as a potential Virgil van Dijk replacement, who suffered a season-ending injury.

White was recently asked about the speculation surrounding him with the Poole-born ace currently with the Three Lions at Euro 2020.

When asked if he speaks to his teammates about the various transfer stories going on, he added: “Not really.

“You don’t know what’s true and what’s not. So there’s no real point talking about it.”

Arsenal legend David Seaman has been a huge advocate of the move, insisting Arteta needs to do everything he can to sign White.

“People of that quality need to be coming to Arsenal,” the ex-Gunners star said.

“I think we’re going down that route of players where they have young, promising with careers ahead of them.

“The days of signing marquee players – that are right on it now – Arsenal will struggle with that as they’re not in Europe.

“The key players don’t just want to play in Europe, they want to play in the Champions League.”
