Arsenal can raise £47m as Mikel Arteta still hoping to sell five forgotten stars
Arsenal have just over two weeks to finalise their summer transfer business. Mikel Arteta may return to the market to source a replacement for Jurrien Timber but is also hoping to sell a number of forgotten first-team members and raise around £47million in the process.
Arsenal have taken their summer spending to over £210m with the signing of David Raya on loan. Raya has cost an initial £3m with an option to buy the Brentford goalkeeper for £27m.
They have signed four players in total and also sold the same number. Granit Xhaka was the most high-profile exit, with Pablo Mari, Matt Turner and Auston Trusty all moving on for transfer fees.
But there are five other players who many will have forgotten about that Arteta is hoping to bring money in for. Express Sport looks at each case on an individual basis and how much they could bring in through their sales according to their value on transfermarkt.co.uk.

Cedric Soares – £2.5m
Cedric came on as a substitute in Arsenal’s first pre-season friendly against Nurnberg. However, the Portugal international has not been seen since.
The right-back has entered the final year of his contract at the Emirates. Rumours around his future have gone quiet in recent weeks after talk of interest from the likes of Villarreal in July.
Nicolas Pepe – £15.4m
Arsenal’s former record signing Pepe has not been seen at all in pre-season. The winger didn’t do enough while on loan at Nice last season to secure a permanent move.
Besiktas have been linked with his signature. However, Turkish outlet Fanatik claims Pepe has been unable to terminate his Arsenal contract to facilitate a free transfer.

Arsenal’s new kit for 2023/2024 is a stylish twist on a classic as it reinvents that mid-1990s vibe. A truly modern-looking shirt with a homage to the past, the Nike kit also includes a nod to the club’s iconic Invincible’s side in the finer details while catching the eye with the lightning bolt motif
Albert Sambi Lokonga – £12.8m
Sambi Lokonga hasn’t played a minute since returning from his loan at Crystal Palace last season. Burnley have been linked with a move for the midfielder throughout the summer.
Clarets boss Vincent Kompany knows him well from his time at Anderlecht. However, they have so far been unable to agree on terms of a potential loan deal with an option to buy.
Nuno Tavares – £15.4m
Tavares was spotted on the Wembley turf after Arsenal’s recent Community Shield win. But the Portuguese left-back doesn’t appear to be in Arteta’s plans.
Football.london claimed last week that German sides Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen have made approaches for Tavares. He appears to be way down Arteta’s pecking order on the left of defence.
Alex Runarsson – £1.2m
Runarsson went on Arsenal’s pre-season tour to the USA. However, the arrival of David Raya has relegated him to fifth-choice goalkeeper.
The Icelandic stopper flopped in his first season at the Emirates. He has been sent out on loan twice since and is in the final year of his contract.
