Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has a problem with three players ahead of Everton
Aaron Ramsdale left sweating over Arsenal future as Mikel Arteta turns to David Raya
Arsenal have enjoyed a positive start to the new season under Mikel Arteta, but there have been some stuttering moments that the Gunners did not endure at the beginning of the last campaign as they oversaw a smooth rise to the top of the Premier League table. Points have only been dropped in one game, a home draw with Fulham, while silverware has already been achieved through the Community Shield, but Express Sport takes a look at three players that Arteta may be considering axing next against Everton as he continues to evolve the team.
Aaron Ramsdale
Aaron Ramsdale was recently named in the 2022/23 Premier League Team of the Year and also nominated for the Lev Yashin trophy for the best goalkeeper in world football, but that still does not ensure that his place is safe with Arteta taking measures to reinforce that area of the pitch.
Brentford’s number one David Raya was similarly one of the top stoppers in the league last season, but got snapped up by Arsenal on loan with the option to buy for £27million. It is unlikely that he will spend the entire season as back-up to Ramsdale.
After the England international’s blunder against Fulham, it is thought Arteta is planning to give his new signing the opportunity to impress. It remains to be seen how Ramsdale would take it if he loses starting status.

Gabriel
Despite being a mainstay in the Arsenal defence since arriving at the Emirates in 2020, Gabriel has found himself out of the team and only made his first league start of the season in the 3-1 win over Manchester United. Transfer questions were batted away but Arteta evidently feels that Gabriel is no longer assured of a start in the team amid their change in system.
Takehiro Tomiayasu and Jakub Kiwior have both been handed starts ahead of the Brazilian, who after possibly picking up a knock on international duty may be forced to sit out against Everton, giving his competition another chance to stake a claim in the starting line-up.

Kai Havertz
Kai Havertz’s struggles following a £65m summer move from Chelsea have been well documented, as the German has failed to get off the mark for his new club and often looked unorthodox playing off a striker. Arteta has publicly backed Havertz and called for patience, but with other players impressing they may get the nod over the 24-year-old at an intense Goodison Park.
Fabio Vieira has shown plenty of promise and improvement in his cameo appearances this season, while Arteta could also opt to play Declan Rice more advanced and include another defensive midfielder such as Jorginho to provide more industry against a high-energy Everton side.
