Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta gives ‘green light’ for Arsenal to swoop for Coutinho

Mikel Arteta has reportedly given the green light for Arsenal to pursuit wantaway Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho in January.

The Brazilian's agents are reportedly on their way to London to try and negotiate a deal with the Gunners.

Coutinho played his best football in England's top-flight when he starred on Merseyside for Liverpool in the 2010s.

However, after a move to Barcelona beckoned, the 29-year-old has struggled to hit the same highs he did in the Premier League, and he now looks set for an exit.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, Arteta gave 'a resounding yes when approving the arrival' of Coutinho.

"It would be useful to change something, even if it is never easy," Arteta revealed about the January transfer window recently.

"We are working towards this, to understand what our needs are, and to find the right solutions."

Arteta then added of the Norwich win: "We go to every ground to try to impose our game and this was a really good example.

"It is a big win for us. We looked sharp and committed. I am very happy. It is not easy to win away in the Premier League."

Arsenal have continued their charge to a Champions League berth thanks to an impressive 5-0 over Norwich on Boxing Day.

The Gunners have now won their last five games on the bounce and, as a result, Arteta's side have leapfrogged West Ham into the top four.
