News of Arsenal’s planned visit stateside comes after they were forced to cancel last year’s scheduled trip due to a Covid outbreak within their squad.
Last year’s visit was due to see the Gunners compete in the Florida Cup alongside Inter Milan, Everton and Millionarios – and Sportsmail understands the Gunners’ summer 2022 plans are very similar to their cancelled 2021 trip.
That means, as it stands, there are no confirmed plans to visit the scene of the LA Rams’ Super Bowl victory and the franchise’s home the SoFi Stadium – but it is understood playing a game in California is not being completely ruled out.
Nevertheless, the tour will provide Kroenke, who has faced major criticism from supporters for what they view as his lack of engagement and investment, with the perfect opportunity to greet Arsenal’s players and staff.
Speaking earlier this week Josh Kroenke, the son of Stan, admitted he finds it hard to relate to Gunners supporters.
Arsenal director Josh Kroenke admitted he finds it ‘hard to truly relate’ to the club’s supporters
Josh Kroenke, who takes a hands-on role at the Emirates Stadium, said: ‘I think that one of the messages that I said to our supporters and I do listen to our supporters over there. I listen to our fans here [in America] with our teams but the level of passion that is involved in European football, and support that goes into these clubs – I don’t want say it’s deeper than anything we have over here – but it’s way deeper than anything we have over here.
‘It’s hard to truly relate as an American or a foreigner heading into the UK the passion that really goes on from the people that support these clubs.’
Arsenal’s planned trip to America will come as a major financial boost to the club as they look to claw back millions in lost revenue caused by the pandemic.
Pre-season tours are lucrative events for clubs as they look to capitalise on the popularity of the Premier League overseas – but Covid travel restrictions have prevents clubs from going abroad over the past two years.
However, clubs are hopeful of going back to normal this summer, with Tottenham already confirming their plans to head to South Korea.
