Arsenal and Leeds in goalkeeper transfer battle as both need January changes
Arsenal and Leeds are set for a transfer battle over a Championship goalkeeper, with both teams needing changes.
The Gunners are looking to bolster their squad by shipping out unused talents as well as bringing in some creative options.
Mikel Arteta has seen his side enjoy a mini-recovery by winning their last three games but they are still six points off the top four.
Part of it comes down to their goal-shipping ability, with Bernd Leno letting 19 past him this season in the Premier League.
After new arrival Alex Runarsson’s Carabao Cup shocker against Manchester City, it saw calls for a new shot-stopper in north London emerge.
While Leeds find themselves in a similar situation as they have seen out an inconsistent season, registering some big wins and big losses.
It leaves Marcelo Biela’s side 12th in the table – but they have the second-worst goals conceded record of 33, six behind West Brom.
And this falls on Illan Meslier, who arrived this summer from Lorient.
The Frenchman’s form ha seed the Whites get linked with moves for goalkeepers including the Baggies’ Sam Johnstone.
But The Sun have reported that both clubs now have their eye on the same prize.
QPR shot-stopper Seny Dieng has enjoyed some impressive displays this season, taking four clean sheets as his side battle to avoid relegation.
With the 26-year-old establishing himself as the No.1 at Loftus Road, the report states that both clubs have made the Swiss player their top priority.
But they have also been joined by Crystal Palace, who also signed a new goalkeeper over the summer in Jack Butland.
The former Stoke shot-stopper, though, is yet to play a minute of football as Vicente Guaita has played all the Eagles’ games – but kept just two clean sheets.
It comes as Arsenal are looking at another Championship star to boost their squad in Norwich playmaker Emi Buendia.
