Arsenal are supposedly leading the pack in the race to sign Napoli superstar Lorenzo Insigne if his contract situation continues to bubble on without resolution. Boss Mikel Arteta and transfer chief Edu have got multiple things to keep an eye on at present, with out-of-favour goalkeeper Bernd Leno supposedly attracting the interest of Inter Milan ahead of the January window.

Starting at the business end of the pitch, the Gunners have finally found some attacking rhythm after suffering through a goalless first three Premier League games.

Since hitting their stride they are now back to winning ways, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has already taken his season’s goal total to five.

Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe have also got amongst the action after netting in the North London Derby, steering Arsenal’s season onto a more promising path.

This being said, there is always room for improvement and Corriere dello Sport claim that the Gunners are leading the race to sign Insigne.

North London rivals Tottenham had reportedly shown an interest in the flying winger this summer, although Arsenal now appear to have edged ahead.

A major stumbling block exists, however, in the fact that he could soon sign a new deal with his current club.

The 30-year-old is Naples born and bred, spending his entire career so far at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Napoli are a club with passionate supporters and a rich history, so prising a homegrown talent away is always going to be more of a challenge.

Arteta and Edu are sure to keep tabs on his contract situation though, with less than 12 months left to run as it stands before he can leave for free.

Another move which could see the Gunners’ duo embroiled in Serie A negotiations is the possibility of Bernd Leno joining Inter Milan.

The Daily Mail claim that Leno would be open to the move, having fallen behind new-boy Aaron Ramsdale in the pecking order.

It would be an unfortunate departure for Arteta, given that having two top-quality goalkeepers on his books seemed to be one of the main objectives heading into the new campaign.

It just so happens that when it comes to minutes between the sticks, goalkeepers are either regularly playing or spend most of their time consigned to the bench.

Top players can only be kept happy for so long, and Leno could indeed seek a move away if his game time does is not restored over the next few weeks.

The Gunners would be wise to keep tabs on both situations as the January transfer window draws closer.
