Arsenal ‘agree’ personal terms for £50m Ajax star – but eye compromise on price

Arsenal are said to be working on a deal for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber – with optimism that a compromise will be made over his transfer fee.

The 22-year-old, who is reportedly valued at £50million by the Eredivisie giants, is the subject of an opening £30m from Arsenal as they look to kickstart their summer business.

Personal terms are thought to have already been agreed with the Netherlands international, who has made 15 appearances for his country.

Timber would provide stern competition to Gabriel and William Saliba at the back – and can also operate on the right hand side of defence.

The Athletic report news of the bid, adding that there is 'optimism a compromise' can be reached between the two clubs early in the summer.

Timber has impressed with his composure on the ball and ability to pass out from the back, which would suit Mikel Arteta's style of play.

The Spaniard said before the end of the most recent Premier League season that his side needed to have the perfect window after finishing second in the table behind Manchester City.
