New Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte followed up on his “We need to work” warning by giving his players extra training regimes to follow. The former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager’s first Premier League match as Spurs boss ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw against Everton.

While the Italian was not able to get off to a winning start in the Premier League at Goodison Park, there were many positive signs for the North Londoners.

There was an evident difference in the team’s intensity and quality, compared to their limp 3-0 home loss to Manchester United.

Conte took over the reins from the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo with Tottenham floundering in eight position and possessing one of the worst goal differences in the table.

And the four-time Serie A winner is so determined to quickly shift Tottenham’s fortunes, he has ordered his players to boost their fitness through the undertaking of extra training schedules over the International Break.

Football London reports the Italian has mainly handed out the additional sessions to players who did not report for international duty with their players.

Conte hinted hard work was on its way in his post-match interview following the stalemate against Rafa Benitez’s side.

“Now, we need to work,” the Spurs boss ominously said after the draw at Goodison Park. We need to improve step by step the physical condition because if you want to bring intensity on the pitch for 95 minutes, we need to improve in an important way our physical situation.”

One player who has been afforded the extra sessions is Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon.

The former Real Madrid star has been moved to a more advanced wing-back position since Conte introduced his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

While his new position is one of the most demanding in football, Reguilon has embraced the new challenges of Conte’s arrival.

“The gaffer is special,” said left-back Sergio Reguilon.

“For us, it’s good. We don’t have a lot of time for work. Now we have a week of rest and training well under him.

“And when we come back from national teams, we start again and go in a good way.”

The Spaniard will likely be one of the key players in Conte’s squad, such is the importance of the wing-backs when it comes to the three man back line.

And the 24-year-old even spoke to a former teammate and Conte’s star man to gain as much insight into the fiery Italian as possible.

“I had a friend at Inter, Achraf Hakimi, and I spoke to him about the gaffer. He told me I will improve a lot under him and I want to do that as soon as possible.

“He told me I will have to work really, really hard but I will improve a lot. In one week, I can already see that.”

Conte will take charge of his first Premier League match at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on the 21st November, where his Spurs side will face Leeds United.
