Tottenham may have to look elsewhere in their search for a new manager with Antonio Conte reportedly ready to turn down an offer from Spurs. Daniel Levy has been looking for Jose Mourinho’s successor since April with Conte emerging this week as the top target.

The Italian coach left Inter Milan after leading them to glory in the Serie A amid financial uncertainties at the club.

He’s since been targeted as Tottenham’s ideal target to come in as their new manager.

And reports this week have suggested that an agreement is close, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Sky Italy now claim that Conte has given no indication whatsoever that he is ready to take over at Spurs.

Negotiations are said to have taken place over the past few weeks, but Conte has ‘major doubts’ over taking over at Tottenham.

The former Chelsea boss wants reassurances that Spurs match his ambitions of challenging for trophies immediately.

And the report adds that Conte is currently ‘inclined to turn down’ Tottenham’s current offer.

If the two parties fail to reach an agreement, it is suggested that Conte may well choose to take a year out from management.

DON’T MISS

Missing out on Conte would put Levy back at square one in the search for a new manager.

Paris Saint-Germain appear steadfast in not letting Mauricio Pochettino leave just a few months after taking over at the club.

Conte could still agree terms with Tottenham though and Brad Friedel believes he would be the perfect fit for Spurs.

“No appointment is ever going to go down perfectly with everyone,” the former goalkeeper told Sky Sports.

“I just think you have to look at the history and the track record [that Conte has]. Winning trophies, winning leagues.

“He’s just come off winning the league with Inter Milan, so you have to look at that. But no hire, no matter who it is, is going to please every single supporter.

“The proof is always in the pudding on results, and if he is appointed and he has a strong pre-season, he’ll slowly get people on his side.”
