Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel looks set to be disappointed if his ambition was to sign Romelu Lukaku this summer. Italian football expert Aurelio Capaldi claims Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte will not allow Lukaku to leave in the next transfer window.

Lukaku has had a superb couple of seasons at Inter since leaving Manchester United in the summer of 2019.

The Belgium international has scored 61 goals in 88 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side.

Conte has been a fan of Lukaku since his days as Chelsea head coach.

The Italian wanted to take the forward back to Stamford Bridge in 2017 but he instead moved to Old Trafford.

Financial problems at Inter, with owners Suning putting the club up for sale, led to Capaldi being asked if Lukaku will be sold to raise funds.

However, appearing on the Transfer Window podcast, Capaldi insisted Conte would not let that happen on his watch.

“I think it depends who is going to buy the club,” Capaldi responded.

“But for sure, if Conte stays, he will not accept the departure of Lukaku.

“He fought a lot to have him and that was a good decision, because Lukaku is making the difference in Serie A.

“But he will not accept Lukaku to go. So if Conte stays, Lukaku is not leaving.”

Chelsea are in the market for a striker, with Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland one of a number of players linked with a move to west London.

Earlier this week, Ian McGarry claimed Tuchel would prefer to sign Lukaku over Haaland.

“Tuchel prefers the playing style of Romelu Lukaku, and also Kylian Mbappe, although Mbappe wants to go to Real Madrid,” McGarry said.

Lukaku spent three years as a Chelsea player between 2011 and 2014 but failed to score in his 15 appearances for the club.

Meanwhile, McGarry says Chelsea view Haaland as too expensive at the price Dortmund have quoted.

“Our information coming from sources who are very senior at the club is that Haaland is just basically too expensive,” he added.

“Remember that Chelsea spent £230million on players in the last 18 months.

“Haaland would cost around €150m in transfer fee, and then you’ve got his wages to include, and also a commission for both Mino Raiola his agent and his father Alf-Inge Haaland, which could take the entire package over the course of the five-year contract to somewhere between £350m or £400m.”
