Anthony Elanga’s total confidence in Cristiano Ronaldo spotted before he scored

Anthony Elanga's confidence in Cristiano Ronaldo has been spotted before the Portuguese forward scored for Manchester United on Tuesday.

Ronaldo opened the scoring at Old Trafford as the Red Devils beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 earlier this week to move back into the top four.

His goal just after the half-time interval ended a run of six matches without finding the net, the longest goal drought Ronaldo has endured since 2009.

Despite this, teenager Elanga has been caught showing he had full confidence that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner would score, before the ball had even left his boot.

As Ronaldo shot from the edge of the box, Elanga could be seen with his arms already in the air in celebration, despite Ronaldo being surrounded by defenders and almost 20 yards from goal.

His confidence was repaid, though, as the 37-year-old's powerful strike flew past Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and into the back of the net.

United went on to win the match 2-0, with Bruno Fernandes adding a second in stoppage time after Brighton had been forced to play the final 36 minutes with 10 men.

Captain Lewis Dunk was dismissed following a VAR review for hauling down Elanga as he bore down on goal.

The Sweden under-21 international is currently enjoying a breakthrough season, having established himself in the first team since the arrival of interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

He has featured in each of United's last seven matches in the league and scored a fine goal in the 3-1 win away to Brentford last month.

Elanga now has two goals in 14 senior appearances for the club, having only made his debut back in May last year.

Tuesday's win pulled United back up to fourth place in the Premier League, with a two-point buffer between themselves and fifth-place West Ham United.

However, several of the teams below them have multiple games in hand, including both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
